I have built and used similar signal extenders for my radio frequency projects on numerous occasions to great effect. Typically I use these for point to point communication between some rather devious devices, my spy foam gun turret for instance being one of the lesser of these evils. As such this is easily adaptable to booster signal wireless
I shall try to be as descriptive as possible with this build for those that have never done it before can follow along.
First, you need some tools and part. You need only a few parts for this project and they all are pretty cheap except for the USB WIFI adaptor. ( I got mine on sale for $10, just check it out ). Metal strainer, USB WiFi adapter, USB extension cable, drill bit, some glue, and ties.
Second, okey now if you complated with the part and then remove the center post (If your's had one) and drill a 1/2" hole as that is perfect size to fit the usb extention. Then insert the female end of the USB extention into the hole you just drilled. Apply the glue in front and back of the strainer and let it sit for some hour. And make sure it creates a strong bond between the plastic and metal.
Third, make sure to not get any glue in the USB socket in USB extended or the adaptor wont fit. Then just plug the USB WiFi adaptor into the socket on the dish and plug the other end into the computer. Enjoy boosted signal strength and improved distance. Check signal strength with Netstumbler of kismet to really see the gain in power. This works wven better than I thought it would.
Last, you can make the dish mountable in roof, or tower, or you can make in to tripod. So be sure to leave your comments on how well it worked. Now I said works great for war driving.
